Hey Jode Lately: Feb 2018
I've wanted to start a series for awhile and thought...what better time than now? Introducing: HEY JODE LATELY! This is the first edition (Feb 2018) and I'm hoping to keep this a monthly thing if you guys like it!
I want to share what's going on in my life lately because I want you guys in the loop! Hopefully, you guys will find some interesting and helpful information in this series.
I'm so excited! Let's dive in, shall we?
2/13/18 @ 11:49 pm. I'm in the media room with a blanket on my lap and a cup of coffee in my hand. Everyone else is in bed and this is usually my most productive time. I have no one to bother me and I can usually get the most done during this time.
I started a new job at the end of January. For those of you who don't know, I am a NICU nurse. I switched from one hospital to another to cut back my hours, and am really liking my new place of employment so far!
I was spoiled and had an entire month off between jobs, so I feel like I'm just getting back into the groove of balancing that whole work/life balance. Doing the best I can, but the #struggleisreal.
My husband and I have been looking at rental properties, so it has taken up a lot of our free time lately. We have been busy searching for and looking at properties to buy and we're hoping to purchase one soon. It's exciting but also scary at the same time. I'm really trusting my husband on this one since he's the business-minded one!
My kiddos (2 & 5) started a new school a couple weeks ago, and they absolutely love it! If I'm being honest, it's a lot more work for me, but we do what we have to do for our kids, right?
To explain further, I have to pack them a lunch every day (their old school served hot lunch). I have to pack them a separate bag for each day with everything they will need for the day. (At their old school, they had more room to store items in bulk for the week or longer.) I have to drop them off and pick them up at set times. (At their old school, I could drop off and pick up whenever.)
BTW...I'm not complaining at ALL, just saying it's taking some getting used to :) It's really been a great switch so far, and they transitioned way easier than I thought they would.
Currently not doing a set fitness routine, but I am still working out. I plan to start BBG March 5th!! For right now I'm spinning at home (see blog post here), running occasionally and doing some exercise videos at home to maintain my fitness level for when I start BBG. My husband and I ran a half-marathon on 2/3 and I was sooo happy to have finished in under 2 hours! A huge accomplishment for me!
I started a fitness Instagram account for those of you who want to follow along, you can find it here! Feel free to start BBG with me on 3/5/18!!!
Lately, I haven't bought too many new clothes, because one of my New Year Resolutions was to wear more items from my closet. I've been having fun creating new looks from my "old" pieces and mixing and matching those vs. buying all new! It has given me a great outlook, saved us money, and has been quite fun in the process!
I haven't had too much "me" time lately, because of my new job. The blog has been my "me" time lately and I have also started reading a new book. It's a great book for those who want to launch a new idea and possibly start your own business someday. Highly recommended and I've learned so much already!
Another mindless (but addicting) activity I've been doing lately is hand lettering! My mom bought me this book a while ago, and let me tell you...once you start, you can't stop! The skills build on each other as you move throughout the book, so you start with letters at the beginning and by the end, you put words together. I love to sit there while we're all watching TV and do it because I don't have to think about anything at all!
THINGS I'M LOVING:
I'm loving my skincare routine from Rodan and Fields. I posted a before and after pic recently on my Instagram Stories and people were shocked! (So was I.) I've been using it for about three months now, and my skin looks and feels better than it has in years. I use the REVERSE Brightening Regimen and am amazed at how well it has worked for me.
I'm also loving this new app I recently downloaded that's going to save me some money. Uhmmm, yess please!
I've realized I need to start eating healthier, more natural foods. Not saying I'm going to do Whole 30 or anything like that, but I need to eat less packaged/processed foods and more natural foods. Enough said. I'll work on it! I was looking up some awesome salad recipes on Pinterest today and got super inspired by them! They all looked so yummy! Need to try ASAP.
J. Crew has an online factory store! Who knew?!
Also: Project Runway still exists!! I guess there's a season going on right now. Need to start watching it, like, now. I used to watch it during college an absolutely loved it. There are some incredibly talented people on that show!
Focus on living in the PRESENT. Try not to think about the past or future, but rather focus on living presently. Take time to listen to others and just be present when you're "with" them. I have to really focus on doing this with my kids. I try to be mindful of it and stop thinking about the other 10,000 things I could/should be doing
How did you like the debut of the new series?! Comment below your thoughts and anything else you might like to be included in the next post of this series: HEY JODE LATELY: March 2018!
