Happy Friday, friends!
Today's post is all about cute casual. This is the look you can find me in on most days. Jeans or jean shorts, depending on the weather, and a casual shirt. Long or short sleeves...again, depending on the weather. Lately Houston has been hot, hot, hot! So tanks and short sleeves are definitely a must. This look was shot when it was a little more cool out, hence the long sleeves....and pasty white legs, lol!
While I wish I could wear my pajamas in public (and actually have).....as of lately, I want to feel put together, without "dressing up." I like dressing up for events and date nights, etc, when it's appropriate. For everyday wear I want to be comfy, but still look cute at the same time. Introducing....cute casual! Basic tee. Jeans. And play with some accessories if you want! I'm reading to run errands in this outfit, while being comfortable and still looking put together at the same time.
I linked an almost identical split-back long sleeve shirt below in the same burnt orange color, but also some basic tees for the summer. The Madewell tee I own in black and gray (the v-neck option), and its seriously the best and only $20. I have a size small for reference, but you could go up a size if you wanted more of a over-sized fit. The tee is so soft and great quality.
My exact denim shorts are Gracie style from J Brand, also linked below on major sale for $35! Limited sizes available. I also have linked a lot of other affordable options for denim shorts. You can never have too many jean shorts this time of year!
My white flats are sadly not stocked right now, but many similar listed for you at a good price. White flats are on trend right now. And these I've been wearing sooo much of lately!
For bags, I linked some SUPER cute boho-inspired bags, as this one was bought at a small, local shop, including a super cute one from World Market for only $10!
My tassel earrings are SugarFix by Bauble Bar, and they have the cutest designs. I linked a bunch of their earrings, they're all so colorful and the perfect pop to an outfit! The exact ones I'm wearing are the first earrings linked, in color "turquoise". They are $12, but I got mine in store on sale for $9!
Things to remember:
Neutral colors first.
You can never have enough casual tees in neutral colors. While I went with some color in this outfit (with the orange shirt) I would make sure you have these three basic tees in these colors first: black, white and gray. You don't have to spend a fortune to buy these. The Madewell ones for $20 are a great option. I love the quality, and they are available in all the neutrals. Once you have black, white and gray covered, then you can venture out with some color. I love the burnt orange color I'm wearing here, which is more a fall color honestly. But I have linked some other great summer colors for you as well, which run less than the Madewell ones. Pink and yellow are really trendy colors for summer right now!
How to dress up a basic tee? Accessories! Bags, shoes, jewelry....oh my! Sky is the limit here....well, sort of. You do not have to match colors, in fact, contrasting colors is super fun, in my opinion! For this outfit, I kept my shoes a neutral color, and matched my printed bag to my shirt, but contrasted the look with turquoise earrings. Do not contrast everything, as this could get messy looking. Make sure you're keeping something neutral!
Add a twist to your tee (literally!)
You can't go wrong with denim and a basic tee. BUT if you're feeling not-so-basic, you can always amp it up a bit. How?
- 1) Knot your tee-- but, careful! It will stretch out a bit after you do this, so if it's more on the expensive side, I don't like to knot it!
- 2) Give it the old half-tuck to make it look effortless and lengthen your legs a bit. Hint: style with high-rise denim when you do this! These two tricks work every time, and gives it just a little extra twist.
Much love, guys! And, as always, thank you guys so much for reading. I cannot tell you how happy I am to read your guys' comments on social media, and hear when you've bought an item I linked. Seriously makes me squeal a bit! So, thank you for following along. Hoping everyone has a safe and fun holiday weekend!
