Ruffled black bodysuit
First off, I am so excited to say that the kids and I are heading back to Iowa today, which is home, sweet home for me! We're going for my "baby" sisters graduation from high school!!! It's so crazy to me that she's graduating. There are 14 years difference between us, and I was in 8th grade when she was born. Still remember holding her for this first time! Just cannot believe she's going off to college in the fall. Anyways, we will be there for a whole week, and always look forward to our time in Iowa. The kids are excited to visit their "Mimi" and "Poppy" and all the rest of our family, who still lives there.
So, a little history...My husband and I both left Iowa in 2009 to start a life of our own! We moved to Baton Rouge first. After two years there, we moved to Las Vegas (yes, people actually live there). We were there for four years, had two kids, and moved to Houston around this time last year! Can't believe it's been almost a year already.
Right now, we're thinking Texas is where we'll end up, but we will see where life takes us :) We both have learned a lot about ourselves moving from city to city.....to city, to city. And we've met some incredible people and lifelong friends along the way as well. It's been quite an adventure! However, our hearts will always belong in Iowa.
Back to the outfit....I paired this ruffled bodysuit (exact is sold out, but at the bottom I have linked identical ones) with these high-waisted denim shorts (more sizes here), these wedges, and a structured black bag (more colors available). This is a completely neutral outfit with no pops of color (which I usually try to incorporate), but this day I was feeling all neutrals. Hey, ain't nothing wrong with that!
Neutrals are ALWAYS a good idea to have in your closet, since they can pair with literally anything. I think my closet is like 50% black, probably! haha!
So...if I wanted to add a pop of color to this outfit, I would add some color with either the shoes or the purse. Accessories are always a good thing to have in color, in my opinion, to make an all neutral outfit stand out. A fun colored pair of mules (love the pink suede) would look great with this outfit, or say..a red purse (lots of colors available). I wouldn't pair the two together, but you know.....separate. But really, the sky is the limit when adding color to neutrals. You could add ANNNNYY color your little heart desires! You could even add a fun bandana to tie around your purse (or wear in your hair) for that little pop of color, which can make such a difference!
But again, I was the feeling the neutral vibes today, and that's what I went with! Anyone else dress to how they feel? Cuz I totally do!
When dressing myself for the day, I also tend to look at one piece in my closet that I know I want to wear, and "build" my outfit from there. Sometimes this takes a lot of trial and error! AND a messy closet floor! But it's always worth it.
For me, I have to SEE pieces on to know how it looks. My husband always asks me for advice on what to wear, and he shows me by just holding it in his hands. And I ALWAYS say......"I dunno, I have to see it on". I can say yes or no almost immediately, but I have to actually SEE it. I'm a very visual person.
There are those moments when I'm confused, like, does this look good or not?? Moments where I can't even tell. If that happens, I usually snap a quick picture of myself in the mirror, and take a 5 minute break. After my break, I look back at the picture, and go with my gut instinct. Yay or nay? If you have to think about it for too long, it's probably a no. BUT you just might be able to save it, simply by pairing it with something else! You just need to figure out what pieces compliment each other, etc.
Isn't fashion so fun?!
Soooo...If y'all didn't hear, I updated some of my tabs under my navigation menu! You can now shop my looks easier by clicking on "Shop my looks" and clicking on each individual photo to shop that specific look! Easy peasy, right?! I also added another link "Shop Style" and that will take you to my Shop Style page, where you can also shop my looks AND see all my favorite items at the bottom of the page, so be sure and check those out, too!
Email or message me if you guys have questions about products, sizing, specific pieces, etc. I try to link exact pieces when I can, but if unavailable, I will link similar items.
Lastly, just wanted to say thank you to each and every one of you who take time out of your day to read MY blog. I want you to know that I read every comment and see all the love you guys give me on social media. And I am so, so grateful for that, believe me! I am not a perfect person OR blogger, nor will I ever be. I am just a regular old gal trying to learn my way through this! I hope you guys have a lovely week. I'll be in lil' old Iowa playing in the cornfields ;)
You can shop the pictures below by clicking on the image. These are items I would pair with this outfit (some are shown in different colors than I would choose, but if you click on link, it'll show you all color options).
Be sure to check out the nearly identical bodysuit I'm wearing in this post...it's linked, and from Charming Charlie for only $13! Whhhaaaat.
