How to Pair Red and Pink Together
Just to let you in on a little bit of our personal life....my husband has been doing overnight shifts for his job for six weeks now, and we've only seen him in passing, for maybe an hour each day. We miss him sooooooo much, but we are nearing toward the end, so we're all trying to push through and finish this thing strong! Ha! I am SO ready for just some good, old-fashioned family fun time. I'm talking popcorn and a movie in your jammies type-fun!
So anyways, that's what we've been dealing with over here.......I know it's hard for him to work so much, but it's been hard managing the kids on my own, too. It's also been difficult to explain to the kids, and they don't quite understand why he's gone so much lately. Ughhh, but such is life, and we are doing just fine! Also....props to all you single parents out there, I don't know how you do it!!!
Today I'm going to talk a little bit about how to pair the color pink and red together. Now, I realize I'm way past February 14th here, but I personally think this look is perfect for spring with the two bold colors really making an eye-catching outfit, and it would actually be a perfect look for say...Mother's Day coming up?!
So here we go babes, you do not have to wait until next Valentines Day to steal this look! You can do it right meow!
Red and pink just work together. They are in the same color family, and just a few shades away from each other. You could really pair any shade of pink with any shade of red, although you'd have to play with the colors a bit to see how it worked. As with anything, be willing to experiment! You never know when something "just might" work out! In my outfit I paired more of a salmon color bodysuit with a deep burgundy capri pant.
Sidenote: By the way, I'm totally loving bodysuits these days. I remember my mom (hey mom!) wearing them when I was like, 5, and thought they looked like the most uncomfortable thing ever. But they are actually really, really comfortable!!! And have made quite the comeback!
Soooo back to pink & red....you could also pair a bright red with a bubble gum pink. Or a blush with a burgundy. It really depends on how "bright" or "light" you want to go!
I chose to keep my shoes, purse, and earrings neutral, but if you had some really amazing red or pink shoes, I say go for it! Same with a pair of really great red or pink statement earrings! Want to vamp up the look even more? Add a pop of red lipstick, and strut your stuff! ;)
If you haven't learned from me by now, you can wear juuuuuust about anything you want to, as long as you wear it with confidence. And you will rock it. Trust me! (This does not include flip flops and socks, by the way, ha!)
Stay true to your own personal style and the options are endless. I tend to dress how I'm feeling for the day. I go off of my mood and what type of look I'm going for. I generally start with one piece I know I want to wear that day, and go from there. If I'm feeling like taking a risk that day , I might try to pair a piece with something I've never tried before.
You never know what's going to look good together, unless you TRY IT ON! Okay? I'm not yelling at you, haha, I promise........But sometimes even on the rack, the pieces might not look good together, but when you try it on, it just might work! Bottom line is...ya never know! Always try it on when you have the option. Or make sure the online company has free returns :) That works, too. Ahem, Nordstrom, ASOS... just to name a few.
Pattern mixing is also something that would be super fun with red and pink for this spring! A general rule of thumb with mixing patterns is that the colors should be in the same color family for it to "work." Again, since red and pink are, you could totally wear a solid red pant with a floral pink and white shirt. Oooor.....if you're feeling extra bold, try pairing two patterns together. Keep in mind one pattern should be big, and one should be small, and keep in the same color family. I should do a post on pattern-mixing...hmmm :) Anyways...
I'm going to give you five different looks on how to pair pink + red, plus links to where you can buy these items. By the way, the bodysuit I'm wearing is from Express, and the pants I'm wearing are from Forever 21. I couldn't find either exactly online, but look #1 is pretty identical to mine!
- LOOK #1: Shop almost the exact look I'm wearing with this bodysuit with these or these pants. The bodysuit is from Express and the exact same color as mine (salmon)...just has some lace detail. The pants are from H&M, and both are also very similar. Pair with nude heels!
- LOOK #2: Pair this adorable pink ruffle skirt with this boxy tee from Madewell for a casual, but flirty look. Pair with sandals or sneakers.
- LOOK #3: Pair these blush wide-leg trousers with this Free People floral red tank (on sale) for a laid-back, boho look. Also loooving that tank in white, as well!
- LOOK #4: Pair this super cute sundress (with tassels) with a straw hat (bonus= pink detail) for a fun day out in the sun! Pair with some comfy sandals.
