Metallic Slip Dress Styled Three Different Ways

Metallic Slip Dress Styled Three Different Ways

ONE DRESS...THREE WAYS

Hi friends!

We're getting a little edgy today AND we're learning how to style a dress three different ways for three completely different looks. Because....let's be real....who doesn't want that?! I'm always looking for alternate ways to wear pieces in my closet, because you get the most "bang for your buck", amiright?! I'm all about versatility, and I'm sure you guys are too...so let's hop to it!

Before we start, I also want to add this: I styled a dress with SNEAKERS, so I totally dressed the dress down, which is one of my favorite things to do with a dress! So NO....you do NOT need to wear a dress with heels. It's perfectly acceptable (and way more practical) to wear sneakers with a dress.

Another tip before we jump into the looks: The most simple way to make a piece versatile is by...... (wait for it)......LAYERING. Layering is especially perfect for fall, so this is a great time to learn how to do it! It's easy. Take your basic piece (in this case, the metallic dress) and start adding items. Think jackets. Think sweaters. Think tees. Think belts. Think scarves. Those are all items that can be added to a basic piece to give it a completely different look!!!

Now...Let's go through each of these looks individually, shall we?

THE BASIC PIECE {The Metallic Slip Dress}

I got my metallic dress from American Apparel when a store in Houston was closing, so basically everything HAD to go. I maaaaay have paid like $5 for it?! I wasn't crazy about it when I bought it, but it was literally the cost of a footlong sub, so hey #ihadto.

I actually love how I can mix and match pieces to change the look of it, and I'm loving it now more than when I got it :) Sometimes, the key is finding the right pieces that go with it to make it work! I found a super similar metallic slip dress for you here. It would be perfect for an upcoming holiday party...just saying ;) Also comes in a light pink color!

LOOK #1 {Add A Jacket}

In this case...I added a denim jacket. You could also do a bomber jacket, a blazer, or a black denim jacket. I would keep the jacket on the shorter side, as opposed to long (at least with with a maxi dress) to even out the proportions. If it hits at your hips, you're good! I wouldn't go too much longer than that.

LOOK #2 {Add a tee UNDER the dress}

A fun option, right?! You could add a tee in any color. I chose to go with black to keep the colors neutral and to match the shoes. If you're not wanting to show a lot of skin, this is a great option! My tee is a tighter fit, but I've seen looser tees under slip dresses and I actually really love the look. It gives it a more casual, laid-back look, which I love! I have not tried it myself...yet ;)

LOOK #3 {Add a sweater OVER the dress}

I think most people forget about adding shirts over a dress, but this is one of my favorite things to do with a dress! It can really change the whoooole look. Because now my dress looks like a skirt, right?! You can do this with mini dresses as well!

My advice for this look would be: Make it an oversized or looser-fitting sweater. The look won't look right if the sweater is a tight fit. Trust me here! If it's oversized enough, you can always knot the sweater for another fun option! This sweater is a bit of a cropped sweater too, so it makes the legs appear longer. Always a good thing :)
